AAHA Accreditation, what does this mean for you?

KBVH has some very exciting news.

As of February 1st, 2012 we are an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited hospital.

In February of 2011, less than a month after moving into our new location, Dr. Nigel Skinner made a decision; if Kew Beach Veterinary Hospital was truly dedicated to the highest quality of patient care and customer service we needed to meet the highest standards in North America, the standards of AAHA.

Over the last year, the entire staff worked tirelessly to meet the 900 standards that accreditation is based on. These standards, cover every aspect of our hospital including: patient care and pain management, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, medical records, cleanliness, emergency services, dental care, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, and continuing education.

We are proud to be an AAHA-accredited practice and believe this helps keep us on the leading edge of veterinary medicine and helps us stay focused on continuous improvement to assure we can offer the quality and range of services you expect and deserve for your pet.

Here are a few examples of how AAHA’s standards impact you and your pet.

  • The standards require hospitals to provide diagnostic services (x-ray and laboratory) so that they can quickly and accurately diagnose your pet.
  • The standards focus on the quality of care in the areas of: anesthesia, contagious diseases, dentistry, pain management, patient care, surgery and emergency care.
  • Accredited hospitals have an onsite pharmacy so they can begin treatment immediately.
  • AAHA standards also require that medical records be thorough and complete, which helps them to better understand your pet’s medical history and how past health issues might be impacting their current medical status.

~ AAHA was founded in 1933 and has accredited approximately 3,200 veterinary clinics and referral hospitals in the US and Canada
~ Approximately 15% of small animal practices in the U.S. are AAHA accredited
~ Approximately 7% of small animal practices in Canada are AAHA accredited

To maintain accredited status, our hospital must undergo comprehensive on-site evaluations every three years. This extra effort ensures that our hospital is dedicated to keeping up with industry updates.
